One simple thing will kill your home's desirability, increase time on the market, and make a community look dated: interior paint colors. I know everybody watches HGTV design shows and wants to get creative with paint colors, but please avoid what I call the "clown house" effect.
Painting every room a different color in an open floor plan home defeats the purpose. The different colors break up the space visually. If you've ever toured homes in Central Park, you know what I"m talking about.
Paint colors, flooring options, and kitchen cabinet color choices are very personal preferences. Go neutral and pick a more monochromatic color scheme, and you'll give potential buyers fewer reasons to choose another home.
